3d Environment Demo Reel

Demo reel for environment that I created of the game project "Aries". I was the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist.

I provided environment modeling, levels and design, high and low poly models, texture maps (color, normal, spec) concept art, style guides. I insured that the look and feel of the game was consistent and of high quality. Software used: Maya for base modeling and scene layout; Zbrush for high poly modeling and sculpting.

The final demo was assembled and rendered using Unreal Development Kit (UDK).

Project "Aries" Alien Temple Exterior

Exterior screen shots from the "Aries" games project,  I was the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist. I created all the alien architecture using Maya and Zbrush as well as using Photoshop for texturing.

The mountains where made in Vue 8.5; retopologized  and normal map baked from the high poly Vue model. There are some work in progress images from this work flow in the blog here: http://ryanwwatkins.blogspot.com/2011/04/vue-to-udk.html

The sky was also created in Vue and rendered out as a dome.

All the the Vegetation is from the UDK and SpeedTree.

Project "Aries" Alien Temple

I finally wrapped up creating the environments for the "Aries" games demo. I created all the alien architecture using Maya and Zbrush as well as using Photoshop for texturing. The human character was made by Evan Brown, human props were modeled by Travis Auerbeck and Sean VanGorder.

I also did the level design and layout as well as the lighting the environment and characters using Unreal Development Kit (UDK)

All images are realtime renders from the UDK.

Aries - Alien Temple exterior

Still have lots of work to do, but for the most part I have the level layout for the outdoor level for the Aries games project. The trees were created using " Speedtree." The sky and distant mountain were created using Vue. There are some wip images below on how I created the mountains.

Vue to UDK

After a long day of trial and error, computer lock ups and crashes I have managed to get a Vue terrain and bake the normal info to a low poly object and render it in real-time with the UDK.

UDK render, one terrain instanced and scaled several times.

Arie - Alien asset test scene

Working out the layout and design for an "Alien Temple" for the upcoming game "Aries." These are high poly models sculpted in Zbrush and rendered in Maya. I will post the low poly models with the normal maps soon.
